Post 18 - Hold onto the Moments

Time is precious, and one of the few things that is certain in our lives is the moment we’re in right now. The moment matters because life can change so quickly. If we are blessed to live a long life, we will encounter many ups and downs. Sickness, death, accidents, heartbreak, disappointment, and struggles will always touch our lives in one way or another. This is why it’s so important to create meaningful moments with family and loved ones while they’re here to enjoy them. Believe me, I’ve lived long enough to experience all of the above, and what continues to sustain me to this day are the memories made with those who matter most.

My biggest regret as a parent is that I did get caught up in the rat race of life, giving a lot of energy and time to my job over my family. Thinking back, I wish I had been more present as a parent instead of being so concerned about how I was perceived at work and worried about creating material wealth. I wish I had taken more days off to spend time with my son and gone to parks, museums, aquariums, and libraries. Or even spent more time sitting at home and playing with him. Don’t get me wrong—I did those things, but I just wish I had done them a lot more. You don’t get that time back. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to cherish the little moments much more. Cooking together, eating together, playing games, traveling, and laughing together—that’s what matters, and that’s what I plan to create more of now.

I still have goals and things that I want to achieve, but at the center of all that I do are the ones who mean the most to me, and that is my priority right now: being present for myself, my family, and my friends; enjoying moments, whether big or small; and cherishing the journey. Of course, we all have to make a living and provide for our families in whatever ways are necessary. However, I would encourage you to take a deep breath during those quiet, simple moments so that you can take it all in. The time we make with family and friends—whether through dinner rituals, morning routines, or weekend activities—will one day be the memories that guide you through dark days. Make those moments matter now.

Wishing you love, light, and a life filled with authenticit-E.

Estella
